1. Why healthy cells determine your performance

When we talk about performance and quality of life, most people think of muscles, endurance or a clear mind. But all of this is created in a much smaller place: in your cells. An adult human consists of many trillions of cells, and each one must be constantly supplied — with nutrients and oxygen going in, with waste products going out.

For this exchange to work, two things are needed that are rarely mentioned together: a reliable transport medium and a permeable cell membrane. The transport medium is water. The permeable membrane depends on omega-3 fatty acids.

2. Water as a transport medium: why it takes priority

Water comes first — and for a simple reason: without a transport medium, nothing gets delivered. Think of water like a bus that carries nutrients through the body to the cells and takes waste products back on the return journey. If no bus runs, the best cargo is useless.

But the transport medium alone is not enough. The nutrients must also get into the cell — and this is decided at the cell membrane. Omega-3 makes it soft, flexible and permeable. When omega-3 is lacking — or omega-6 fatty acids strongly predominate — the membrane becomes stiffer and exchange slower.

No — water comes first as a transport medium. Omega-3 optimises the membrane, but without transport the nutrients don't arrive.

Which omega-3 sources are best?

Marine omega-3 (EPA/DHA) from oily fish or algae oil is most bioavailable. Plant sources (linseed, chia) contain ALA which the body must convert — less efficiently.

How quickly do I notice a difference?

With consistent ideal water: often within days. With omega-3 supplementation: 4–8 weeks for measurable change in the Omega-3 Index.
